What we get up to….

Photo taken while staying at the wonderful Sausage Tree Camp, Zambia. Here we are fishing on the banks of the Zambezi, one eye on the River on the lookout for Alligators, another on the lookout for Hippos, another on the lookout for Lions, another on the lookout for Elephants :)

weekend update

howdy,

So, another weekend passes by and we had a fun weekend! i (chris) came back from a three day trip to Sydney for the ATDW board meeting and other ATDW meetings Friday night. I arrived back in on Friday arvo, Kylie met me at the airport, and we went down to Victoria Pt to pick up Jackson…. Of course, all Jackson wanted was the present which I bought home for him. That, apparently, was the highlight of me returning ;) I bought him home a Rascal the Dragon book – which he enjoyed – www.pauljennings.com.au

Saturday arvo we went out to woodlands, for a “Christmas in July” dinner with some work friends. Super dinner, super choice on the wines and a good time! We stayed out there overnight and came back today… nothing too exciting today.

Our NY accommodation has changed, the apartment we were going to be staying in is no longer available, because the building management of the other apartment has decided to stop allowing short term rentals in that building. So, we’re now staying at the Ivory Tower. It looks good and is in a good spot, apparently were in an apartment up nice and high with good views of NYC.

Citron

Kylie, Jackson and I went out for dinner last night to a a very nice restaurant at Wilston, called “Citron“. Jackson thought it more entertaining to call the restaurant “Johnny Neutron” which is a cartoon character.

Thanks for the tip off to Citron and the voucher Sue Walsh! The food was very nice, the pinot (Massale) we had was nice and Jackson was well behaved (occupied for part of the night reviewing a toy catalogue). Jackson had the beef noodles and ice cream with chocolate topping, Kylie had the beef and lemongrass bites and the twice cooked chicken with the roast banana pudding and I garlic and pepper calamari, the prawn and crabcake laksa and the chocolate spring rolls (very nice). A great night out.

Today we’re off to the taxman this morning and the grocery shop.

This afternoon, I’m off to judge Business Icon. To quote the QUT web site:

“Business Icon is essentially a business competition aimed at young Australians (18-25 years) which will assess contestants’ creativity and entrepreneurial thinking, business intelligence, leadership and employability skills. They will face a judging panel of experienced and prominent business identities after which elimination rounds will be conducted until one winner is left.

Think “Australian Idol” without the singing. Think “Race Around The World” without having to loan a helicopter to get to the next destination. Think “The Apprentice” without Donald Trump’s bad hair!”

It should be an interesting afternoon.

What’s up this weekend?

This weekend we’ll not be up to too much, but last night I (chris) went out to the Normanby for a few drinks and dinner with some of the digital marketing team, this morning we’re off to the post office to lodge Jackson’s passport application, tonight we’re off to dinner at citron at west end (thanks Sue Walsh!) and tomorrow morning (8am!!) we’re off to the taxman to see whether we can get some of our hard earned back off “Little Johnnie

There’s a Robert Dickerson exhibition on at the Philip Bacon Galleries at the moment, it finishes up next weekend. We might nip over to that and start to teach Jacko the finer points of art we’ll never be able to afford ;) Here’s a link to some of the work which will be on display: Robert Dickerson exhibition

The other big thing (for chris) this weekend is the start of the next Where Else But Queensland campaign. The campaign is a partnership of Tourism Queensland, Accor Hotels and Virgin Blue. The campaign includes fantastic deals on Virgin Blue flights and Accor hotel packages, as well as a new toy the digital team have been working on Queensland Holidays’ Ultimate Auctions. This nifty thing currently features Virgin Blue flights and Accor holiday packages, which can be bid on from as low as $1! Where Else But Queensland campaign site

Chambers Flickr Pics

Tonight and today I messed around a bit on this blog and got a flickr slideshow set up to feed through to our blog, I set up a similar feed for our YouTube video’s and I also changed the layout, colours and added an RSS feed and subscriber counter. It took a fair while, but I am happy with the result, especially with the flickr slideshow which we can now use to load photos to our album on flickr and it will update over here. The photo album also now has a permanent link and I have added a link to it in the sidebar.

new handycam

Just last week, or the week before, we bought ourselves a new gadget. I’ve (chris) wanted a video camera / handycam for a while now. Our holiday to the states later in the year seemed like a great excuse to get one.

We ended up going through the fine folks at retravision, thanks John! we got ourselves a SONY sr300e handycam. This thing is great, it has a 6 megapixel stills camera, it’s small and light and so far I have found it easy to use. It records straight to a 40 gigabyte hard drive. We also ended up buying an external 80 gigabyte hard drive which we will take with us and transfer footage over from the handycam to the hard drive as we travel. I’m sure 120 gigabytes should be enough memory to cover all footage we take while we are away!

slight change of plan

Later this year Kylie, Jackson and I will be heading off to the states (only 114 days to go…..)

We’ve made a slight change to our itinerary recently, to have an extra day in new york, the itinerary now is:

27th Oct Leave Brisbane
27th Oct to the 31st Oct LA (santa monica)
31st Oct to the 8th Nov New York
8th Nov t0 the 15th Oct- Disneyland Florida
15th Nov to the 18th Nov- Cruise the Bahamas
18th Nov to the 22nd Nov – Las Vegas
22nd Nov to 25th Nov – San Francisco
25th Nov to the 30th Nov – Hawaii
2nd December – back in Brisbane

Change of address

After only a short stint at “travelpod” I (chris) have made the executive decision to move from there to this blog. Apologies for the inconvenience…. The travelpod blog was good – but I didn’t want “just a travel blog”. These pages will be able to capture all the fun and games of our holiday to the states later in the year, but also all of the other stuff we get up to.
