The Chambers

What we get up to….

Photo taken while staying at the wonderful Sausage Tree Camp, Zambia. Here we are fishing on the banks of the Zambezi, one eye on the River on the lookout for Alligators, another on the lookout for Hippos, another on the lookout for Lions, another on the lookout for Elephants :)

happy "people’s day"

Today was a public holiday here in brisvegas! :) The “Ekka”, which is our exhibition, is running at the moment. The ekka has the all the usual stuff, including agricultural displays and other agricultural related “stuff”, side show alley, showbags, etc etc. I was going to go to the ekka one day with Jackson, which I wanted to start doing with him each year as a father-son thing – but with the flu “epidemic” hitting Brisbane / Sth East Qld, I (like many others) have decided to stay away this year. Jackson and will go every second year ;) So, to the people at the Ekka – thanks for the public holiday and the chance to have a short work week. We didnt do too much today – just stuck around the house and went over to Carindale for brunch and some shopping….

I’m a fan of American Football – I started off enjoying the game itself, I enjoy the strategic side of the game, but now I more enjoy fantasy football than the game itself. Fantasy Football is defined as “A game played by football fans in which participants draft their own team and compete with teams built by others. Scoring systems vary among fantasy football leagues, but most are based on points accumulated by players based on their real-life performance in a game on the same day.” Kylie and I call it “ticks and crosses”, because of all the stats and numbers and lists which I print out to reserach. Anyways, it’s “drafting” season for fantasy football and I’m enjoying a couple of drafts now… i’ll post some updates through the year on how i’m going.

only 72 days to go until our holiday!

update from chambers HQ

not much on the horizon for this weekend. the savings for the us holiday continues, so we won’t get up to anything too dramatic.

We’ll go and see Kazu. Kazu and his family arrive to stay with Kylie’s mum and dad this weekend. Kazu stayed with Kylie’s family when he came here from Japan on an exchange program when he was younger. They are here for a week or so, which I am sure Jackson will love as he will have another play friend in Kazu’s little girl. Whilst here they are going to go to tangalooma resort and off to a horse riding place.

We’re off to montezuma’s for dinner on saturday night.

There’s a couple of nice Charles Blackman’s on ebay at the moment. Both are from the big Nadine Amadio auction which was held recently. Apparently, Nadine Amadio, who is a close friend of Charles Blackman and his biographer moved to Cairns and wanted to sell up all the stuff she would not take to Cairns with her. It was a major sale, with over 100 pieces of Blackman’s work going under the hammer. Would have been a nice sale to go to. I have bought an autographed catologue page from that sale, which hangs in my office at TQ. The two pieces on ebay are nice works. One is an original work and the other is a unique looking litho which I have not seen before. Not sure how I will convince Kylie to buy either with our impending holiday – but I will give it a shot!

I have started to get together a group for the NFL game I will be going to in NY. So far Grady, Ian, Robert and myself are going. I’m hoping to get quite a few of the guys I’ve met over the years who live in the USA to come over to NYC and meet up for the game.

Workwise (for chris) lots has been happening lately. The digital team has been very busy with a whole stack of activities. queensland holidays has changed a lot in the past few weeks – including a change to the navigation on the site, which now includes a whole stack of travel tools, if you haven’t looked at the site in a while you should do so now. Court and the ATDW team are in the midst of reviewing all the activities of last year and looking ahead to the next subscription period, as well as continuing to seek out operators who we have not approached. The digital marketing team will be joined, on the 20th, by Fabian who will take up the role of the Web Projects Coordinator. Sally moves to Melbourne, but will still be with the team in her editor position and telecommute. Em is off to become a mummy, as of next Friday – good luck Em! and…. we’re going to start the second round of our auction activities this weekend, have a look at our campaign site to see the 4 nights for the price of three offers available and our “Ultimate Queensland’ auction site

nifty site

Isn’t it amazing what you find on the internet! All types of good stuff out there… Like this site seat guru, which lets you look up where your allocated seat is on a whole stack of airlines.

example is we can look at this layout of the QF 747-400 and know that our seats for our BNE-LAX flight are “ok” (or at least they arent labeled as bad) and over the wing.

Unfortunately, the site doesn’t tell me if the people sitting in the seat in front of us are likely to recline their seats all the way back.

nifty!
