We’ve now added a few of the LA pic’s to the slideshow. We have more photos, but these are the ones we’ve had time to add. more to come.

LA. the city of…
spead-outed-ness? someone told us that the population of LA county is 28 million – 18 million legals and 10 million illegals…. vs 21 million for all of oztraylia…
So far we’re having a blast.
The flight over was…. long. It wasnt too bad, except for the people in the row in front of us who insisted on putting their seats all the way back so that they were nearly sitting in our row. The food on the flight was ok, jackson had a couple of decent sized sleeps, was disappointed to wake the first time and find out we werent in disney land yet, the on demand tv that QANTAS has worked most of the flight. Chris got to watch Blades of Glory and a rugby league movie with Andrew Johns as the main actor (I didnt mind it!) & Kylie watched Knocked up (didnt get a good review) and Blades of Glory and Jackson watched the cartoons and the flight path channel (ok, cc watched it too! (“are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there ye?”).
We arrived at 730am Saturday and had pre-booked our room so we could check in to the room straight away, which was great. The hotel we’re staying at is very nice. It’s in a great spot and it’s a very big apartment (photo’s to come).
Santa Monica is very pretty – I highly recommend staying here when in LA. The pier, the third street promenade, the palisades park (which overlooks the pacific ocean) and some of the other treelined (both palm and others) streets here are all very nice. LA wasnt a city I was looking forward to staying in, but i’ve had a great time.
The weather… the weather is great – it’s pretty similar to what it is in Brisbane during the day, and it gets cooler at night.
We went to Universal Studios on Sunday, which was an enoyable day out!
Public transport here in LA sucks (even more than my usual perception of the usefulness of public transport) and the city is so spread out – so, we got a taxi car service to take us out to the park. The traffic is shocking too – i blame the bad public transport facilities
Our driver (Allan) was a real interesting guy who covered many topics, surely the most interesting was how he just wanted to meet a nice girl to marry and settle down with, you know – someone to do his washing, cook his dinner and clean his house…. and NOT be like his current girlfriend who promised she could do all those things, but was just like all other LA girls who have no interest in those things and just want to spend his money… oookay. don’t worry oz girls, I told him there were plenty of aussie girls who were looking for men like him!
At Universal Studios Jackson got to meet Dora the Explorer, Diego and Spongebob Squarepants! There’s some great photo’s of this coming to the slideshow. We enjoyed the backlot tour, which was a tram car ride around the stages of the Studios and includes some of things you most often see about Universal Studios, including Jaws the Shark jumping up at the tram, famous film locations, the airplane crash scene from War of the Worlds, the tanker truck on fire in the subway which floods and the crashing helicopter. Jackson managed this ride pretty well until the “mummy” section where Whoopi Goldberg gets covered in cockroaches – he hated this and it freaked him right out… We saw the “WaterWorld” show which was very entertaining – it was incredibly noisy – Jackson didnt like the loud noise and would cover his ears up and turn away, but he was very interested in what was going on and would keep turning around to watch, but the noise would then scare him and he’d turn away… and so on and so on
We’ve all enjoyed the shopping here. Kylie has warmed up for her NYC efforts, by practicing her attack plan on some of LA’s finest, including the third street promenade, montana avenue and the beverley center. The beverley center was a bit disappointing – but the drive there took us through Beverley Hills & Bel Air (yo yo fresh prince), past UCLA (HUGE campus) and a few other spots of note.
Kylie’s favourite shop here has been either Zara, where she bought lots of great stuff for her and Jackson OR the Banana Republic where she bought more great stuff. Chris’ favourite was Victoria’s Secret… or The Gap
We’ve enjoyed walking around and checking things out. Yes – we’ve been walking…
The palisades park is very pretty. It’s right along the front of Santa Monica on the ocean and has a few walking paths and has a lot of palms trees and it leads you to the pier. The pier is a good spot to spend an hour or so, Jackson loved the carousel here!
Chris’ work meetings were great – it was nice to see the TQ offices and sit down with JD and have a chat, the meeting with Disney went well.
tomorrow we check out of LA and fly to New York…. LA has been fun, my opinion of the city has definately changed.
photos to come soon – just click the big picture link on the right hand side soon (by soon I mean – after we put Jackson to bed and if I am not asleep by then)

Highlights along the way?? many! These are the things i’m looking forward to
Los Angeles: We’re staying in Santa Monica, at a swank hotel – that should be nice and Universal Studios should be a hoot. I am looking forward to seeing the TQ LA office & JD and Lisa, my meeting with Disney and bumping into Britney Spears…..
New York; Like a fighter plane navigator, I’m just going to have to buckle myself in and be dragged up and down fifth avenue and a litany of other Manhattan shopping hot spots…. Kylie has maps, she has plans, she has hit lists – shopping will be big in NYC. Other highlights will be the NFL game I’m going to with Ian, ad:tech (a big digital marketing conference), eating out and the photo tour of New York I got Kylie as a birthday present – on this tour a guy (who is a photographer) will take us on a tour of Manhattan and takes some photos of us – which means we’ll actually have photos of us as a family, not just of a couple of us…
Disney World; Rides, mickey mouse, rides, shows, theme parks… Jackson should love this!
Caribbean cruise; mon! three nights on a disney cruise of the caribbean!
Vegas; Kylie has her Nirvana in NYC and I have Vegas
We’re hiring a mustang for a day and doing a spin through the desert ( google map of the drive ), betting, a helicopter tour to the grand canyon , betting, shopping, betting, m&m’s world, betting…
San Fran: thanksgiving dinner! “black-friday” ( a big shopping event, curse my luck!) and a tour of San Francisco on a big red 1950′s MACK fire engine – this will be awesome!!
Hawaii: North America’s surfers paradise?? We’ve got an apartment on the beach front at waikiki and we’ll take a look and see at Pearl Harbour, go on a drive around the island and hanging 10…
looking forward to it and we’ll be posting updates as we go….
cc, kc & jacko
g’day
ok, so pretty soon we’re off on our US holiday. If you’re here for updates, you’re too early – we don’t leave until the 27th. Or, click this link (http://ckjchambers.blogspot.com/search/label/us%20holiday) to see what’s gone into planning this holiday
i’ll also readily admit that this post was partly about stopping the most recent post including a photo of my double chins…. (AMI awards was a good night out…..)
Australian Marketing Institue Awards

I “reported” earlier in the week that I would be going to Sydney for the Australian Marketing Institute Awards for Excellence. TQ had three finalists, the Where Else campaign for “brand revitalisation” and the “multimedia and interactive” awards and the whitsundays 74 islands campaign.
We won the multimedia and interactive award! This was for the site we developed as part of the “where else but queensland” campaign. This site and campaign is something I am very proud of and to have it recognised by the AMI is very gratifying. I was able to give a speech and I thanked the digital team, Jill Holloway and Steve McRoberts and Clems (our creative agency) for their work on the campaign.
Other finalists were:
- Telstra Business, ‘Solve Business Mysteries’
- Virgin Super and Market United, ‘Have a Super New Year’
- ANZ Financial Planning, ‘Procrastinators Online Marketing Campaign’
- Icon.Inc, ‘Consumer Website www.donateblood.com.au’
- University of Adelaide, ‘Life Impact on Campus’
- BankWest and Market United, ‘BankWest Instant Saver Photogallery’
- Tourism Queensland, ‘Where Else but Queensland’
- Synergy and Market United, ‘Synergy SmartWays Energy Calculator’
- IBM, ‘IBM Business Partner Interactive Summit 2007’
- Hoodlum/ITV, ‘Emmerdale Online Channel’
- Suncorp, ‘Margin Trader’
- Kelly Services, ‘KellyJobExpo.com.au’
- Tourism WA and Market United, ‘Win a Postcard Perfect Holiday’
- Yaffa Publishing and On Communications, ‘Podcasting – A New Effective Form of Brand Engagement’
- oneworld and Qantas, ‘Race Around Oneworld’
So, we managed to beat some good competition. well done team TQ!
More info is on the AMI website: http://www.ami.org.au/awards.asp?nv=6#multi

Got home from Sydney to find two of my recent purchases arrived while I was in Sydney. I bought, from the site www.jerseys.com.au a new Retro Raiders jersey for myself, which is a 1989 Woodgers jersey and for Jackson I bought a Raiders jersey and shorts set.
some new pix
only 9 more sleeps!!
so, a busy couple of days coming up…. Later today I am off to Sydney to go to the Australian Marketing Institutes’s Awards. Myself, Jill Holloway and Tara Eller will be there with some of the fine folk from Clems. We’re up for three different awards and I’m looking forward to a good night out. a list of the finalists is available on the ami’s site: www.ami.org.au/awards.asp?nv=6 update to come….
I have also updated our photos on flickr. some new pics in the bunch include some photos of a couple of fish dad and I caught on a trip out onto the river a while back, photos of the parrots and one of the chicks and vegas the cat.
click the photo’s link in the right hand navigation to see the photos…. for some reason I cannot get the slide show to appear in this post…. i’ll sort it out later
ahoy from wakerley

a few quick updates, on nothing terribly exciting….
1/ on the weekend we cleaned out the fish tank. we put in some faux plants (i got sick of the “real” ones not growing). I cleaned out the filter which was disgustingly dirty and cleared out most of the “duck weed” which was growing in the tank. it looks 100% better & the fish are much happier.
2/ my post on boxedup appeared on technorati and someone from boxed up sent me an email to let me know that very soon they will be adding a feature to their product which will in fact allow you to pick an image to use if you aren’t presented with an image you like. It’s a great improvement to the boxedup tool and I’ll keep playing around with the site to see how it goes.
3/ i’ve spent a fair bit of time mucking around on facebook over the past few days. my page has been updated and I’ve added a few different things, including a sports betting challenge and a book case which can show the books i have & want to read….. chris’ page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=603703031, or linked in the right hand navigation in this blog.
over and out
morning officer
the subject of this post bears no resemblance what-so-ever to to the topic at hand… however! it does sound better than general weekend update.
not much going down this weekend.
Kylie went into town with Mum yesterday to buy some comfortable walking shoes for the 5th ave assault.
Jacko and I hung out at home and did a lot of nothing. When I say a lot of nothing, I mean we did a lot – but not a lot of anything in particular. playing outside, playing inside, you know… kid’s stuff
Some exciting news is that Kylie and I are parents again! sort of…. My Scarlett Chested Parrots have babies, four of them to be exact. Jackson and I spent some time yesterday cleaning out the bottom of the cage and shoo’ing away ants – there’s lots of ants around at the moment. Lots of ants all around in the yard. not sure why, but there is – out the front, out the side and out the back. anyway, the reason for mentioning the ants is that two of the baby birds had left the breeding box – which I think would have involved a fall of about a meter and a half and were on the bottom of the cage and the ants were giving them grief, biting them and such. So, we pfaffed around and got them back into the box and then they fell out again. I’ll do another check on them and try and get photo’s later. v exciting!
We went out for dinner with Colin and Ju last night. To Thai Mali – it would HAVE to be Brisbane’s best Thai restaurant. I don’t know why we bothered with the menus, we ordered pretty much the same thing we always order! It was nice to catch up with Col and Ju, thanks for dinner! Col and Ju and the boys will be looking after the house and vegas when we’re on our holiday.
The US holiday itinerary is all but done! I’m so close now – i did a fair bit on it yesterday and we just need to tidy up Honolulu – which is our last stop – and we’re done. Only 13 sleeps to go!
This week looms as a busy one at work – with a trip down to Sydney Thursday afternoon for the Australian Marketing Institute Awards. TQ is a finalist in three categories – two finalists awards for the Where Else campaign (brand revitalisation and also for the digital campaign) and a finalist for the Whitsundays campaign. It should be a good night out hopefully. Back on Friday.
I bought Jacko a great little gift this morning – a raiders jersey!
he’ll look v cool in that.
anyways, that’ll do it. aveagoodweekend
