Round review: Pine Rivers 21st January

January 21st, 2012 No comments

Four ball aggregate competition today. Interesting competition style where two golfers play as a pair. At the completion of each hole both players take their handicap from their score and then add those scores together. Coxy and I scored a 149, which we think will be well off the mark.

Summary of the round:

Date played: 21st January
Score: 90 off the stick

Highlight: Par three scored on the fifth hole. My tee shot (9 iron) flew the green and landed on the tee block, some 15 metres behind the green. My lie was sloped severely and I needed to chip down an embankment. Given the difficulty of the shot I was happy to land on the green and have a 7 or 8 metre putt left. I sunk it. My scores on the par 3′s today = 4, 4, 3, 6.

Lowlight: The par three 8th, which I knocked my tee shot well left. Chipped through the green, duffed a chip back on and then three putted… #lesigh

Last week I undertook an AimPoint putting lesson. More info to post on that later. I was hoping my putting would improve and it certainly did. I only recorded one three putt (break in concentration) and recorded three one putts.

No 7′s on the round! Nine bogeys and three pars.

Round result 21st January

The scorecard can be found http://golfshot.com/Rounds/Detail/20-8542412-8542446

Putting definitely improved a touch. I played the par three’s better than usual (except the 8th) and no blow out 7 or 8 scores on any single hole. Definite improvement, but had a couple of brain explosions.

My handicap pre-round was 22. Considering the round was inside my best 8 of the last 20, my handicap should drop lower. This round will knock a 95 out of the equation.

Ping I15 in the bag

May 8th, 2011 No comments

Huzzah… After a loooong time in between drinks, I now have a driver back in my golf bag. After the round at Cab del Sol where I smashed three wood – three wood brilliantly (highlight hole post to come), I decided I could manage to re-learn how to hit the driver and get a bit more distance off the tee.

At Cabo del Sol I hit the Taylor Made woods well and was going to get myself the new R11. Those things look amazing cool and the trickery in being able to adjust the club is phenomenal. I have the R9 Taylor Made three wood and I’ve managed to hit it fairly well, so thought I’d get the Taylor Made R11 to go with it. I had some Golf World vouchers so went to Golf World at Newmarket. The dude who helped me out was great, I’ll get his name and update the post later on.

Unfortunately the R11 is not in stock yet through most Golf World stores, but I wanted to get a driver whilst motivated, so decided to try out a couple of clubs in the net & on their “hawk eye” system which helps determine what shaft strength / style club you need and determine club suitability. I liked the looks of the Ping and also Adams drivers, so tried them both out.

Both clubs held a similar visual appeal for me, in that they didn’t look like massive bulbous distractions. The clubs both also felt good to hit shots with and produced similar results, but I ended up going with the Ping.

The “hawk eye” swing & shot tracking system was great as it effectively measured the trajectory, path and distance of the shot. I have been hitting shots with a high trajectory and this means they effectively stop where they bounce, with no run-on. So, even though I hit my irons well and a fair distance, they dont run on and I get robbed of distance. There was no evidence of this in the “hawk eye” tracking, with the shot trajectory being good, the shots straight (just a minor adjustment in stance required) and the ball carrying just under 200 yards (approximately 180 metres) on the fly. Once on the course and with some more practice I should be able to work that out a bit further.

Thanks very much to the guys at Golf World Newmarket, I appreciate your help!

Looking forward to next weekend’s round at Pine Rivers Golf Club and testing out my new Ping I15.

#project365 – 9 Jan – Bathroom ‘Reno’

:)

Thats a pretty lame photo…. A shower? boooooring!

Well, hang on a second there. If you look closely enough you’ll notice that the hose hangs kinda wierd and there’s a couple of VERY minor scratches on the connection between the hose and wall mounting. Why?

Because I did this myself! :)

One of the several inside chores I did today was to put this up in Jackson’s bathroom.

It didn’t take as long as I thought it would and I didn’t completely stuff up any part of the installation.

I’m not a big fan of the actual set as the hose keeps turning the wrong way and the shower head doesn’t sit in its cradle properly. Poor design (not poorly installed)…

a few cool sites

November 2nd, 2008 No comments

I’ve started to notice some really interesting sites. This is probably because I am now subscribed to a lot more RSS feeds, emails and other news sources. I thought I’d post a few here.

I regularly have a word on the tip of my tongue, which I just can’t quite remember WHAT the hell it is I am trying to say. I know it’s a very, what’s the word…? pertinent thing to say, but I just can’t…. remember what it is. Now, I use http://chir.ag/projects/tip-of-my-tongue/ which is designed to help you find that word! You can search for words by three different methods, including parts of a word, the meaning of a word, or letters in a word.

Not really sure of a completely USEFUL application for this, but it is pretty nifty! http://www.sevenwires.com/play/UpsideDownLetters.html Allows you to type something into a box and copy / paste the results, which is your typed in information UPSIDE DOWN into another site.

Having again had a look at some of the cards on JackCards, I still think this is a very useful site! Use JackCards to organise cards for your valued friends and family and make sure you never miss a special day again. http://www.jackcards.com/

In a completely different light, this is something which I saw on a site a while ago. I would NOT want to catch one of these while out on the Logan River with dad… http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article817553.ece

experiment nearing completion

October 26th, 2008 No comments

In the end it was not even close. As expected during the course of today we heard many, MANY, mummy’s, daddy’s and “I just wondered if”‘s.

The end tally was:

Mummy’s 89
Daddy’s 52
I Just Wondered If 31

The main burst of activity happened over a stunning one hour period in which Kylie was barraged with Mummy’s as Jackson pleaded to go for a swim.

Jackson will be going to sleep in about 30 minutes. I am not writing off any chance of there being over 100 “Mummy’s” as Jackson tries to talk us into letting him stay up longer.

over and out
