2011 is looming as a massive travel year for us Chambers’. We love to travel, with time planned in the USA and a further visit now planned to Africa, I (Chris) will have nearly 10 weeks overseas (hooray) next year! Throw in a few weekends away in my most beautiful of states Queensland (hooray) & it’s not hard tp understand why I’m really looking forward to 2011!

When I set foot in Africa it will see me tick my fifth continent off my to visit list. I’ll have visited Africa, Asia, Australia, North America and South America (in April 2011). Jackson will be visiting his fourth continent. I’m averaging one every 7.2 years and Jackson one every 1.75 years. Kylie and I want Jackson to be well travelled as we think this will contribute to him being more understanding of the world around him.

One of the places we’re going to visit when we’re in Africa is the amazing place shown in the video below. It’s called Sausage Tree Camp and it’s located in the Lower Zambezi. Looks amazing and it’s something we’re looking forward to very much!

More info on Sausage Tree Camp can be found on their website www.sausagetreecamp.com

It’s also interesting reading some of the reviews for Sausage Tree Camp on TripAdvisor

Michael Cox, John Wall, Dean O’Byrne and I are off to the Presidents Cup in 2011. To help pay the way we’re going to try and punt our way to a profit between now and then to pay for the whole thing (note sarcastic optimism).

Over the coming months I’ll be posting information about the club over on the “Pine Rivers El Presedente Punters Page”

El Presedente!

FULL DISCLOSURE: Of course, I work at Tourism Queensland

This past week has been very exciting. It is the culmination of an incredible effort by a large number of people, yet weirdly we’ve only just begun.

I’d like to take the opportunity here to share a little about some of the work which has been undertaken to deliver this wonderful new positioning for Queensland. The new positioning is Queensland, Where Australia Shines. We believe it’s the type of positioning which can aid in pushing Queensland to the forefront of holiday makers minds the world over.

For some information about the process to develop the new positioning, a great resource has been added to the Tourism Queensland Corporate website http://www.tq.com.au/brand.

Of course there is a beautiful new “Queensland, Where Australia Shines” AV piece

More to come over the next couple of weeks.

Shine on!
Chris

Of course these thoughts are mine and not those of my employers…

Surely, in this day and age we can have electronic voting! Swipe our licences, passports or some sort of ID to then use a touchscreen system and lodge our votes…. We could then be seeing results come in through the day and by 630pm or so the result could be known. It would also cut down on the high number of informal votes. There were hundreds of thousands of informal votes were lodged and technology could be used to stop this. On the other hand, we only vote every three years or so and maybe the investment in technology, which is likely to be usurped quickly mean this is not a wise investment…. I’d think we could make the investment in a sensible way and someone should be looking at this.

Congrats to the 20 year old from Brisbane, Wyatt Roy, who looks to be off to Canberra to represent his electorate. This is a wonderful thing and great to see youth coming into our parliamentary system. To those saying he’s too young, too bad to you! He’s been elected by his electorate and he’s off to Canberra! Think about this. If we can send 20 year olds off to Afghanistan to fight, they can be part of our parliamentary system.

The big winners out of the election are the Greens and good for them! They ran a good campaign and gave the folks of Australia an option other than the Coalition & Labour. Great to see them in the lower house and capturing a big share of the vote.

Where does all this leave the NBN?! I want my fast broadband dang it!

I no longer believe in this two party preferred system and in particular it worries me that a party who gets the share of vote the Greens got and yet they still only have 1 seat in the lower house. Obviously, the Australian people feel uncomfortable in either the coalition or the Labour party being our government and it’s so close that neither of them will have a majority of any kind. I dont know the answer to this, but I don’t see the current system represents the desires of the Australian people.

I thought I heard last night that we’ve got our first indigenous member of the House of Representatives. Is that true? I would have thought surely there had been an indigenous person elected previously.

Great to see Steven Fielding gone. Tootle-loo! Shame Conroy made it through…. Shame.

The Labour party must be ruing the decision to dump Rudd. They should be anyway! Instead of blaming him for leaks and the result, how’s about acknowledging that the dumping of him is one reason for the result. Good to see KRudd get back in.

Hopefully, whatever the outcome, our politicians can put aside all the BS and sort out this mess soon and they can get on with running the country.

This photo was taken at Los Angeles International Airport, at the end of 30 days vacationing in the United States, whilst waiting for our V Australia flight back to Brisbane.

This photo is funny to us as Jackson and our friend Ian, who we holidayed with in Telluride, had been singing a Miley Cyrus song. Jackson was very keen to get his photo taken with the sign and have us show Kim and Ian.

I’m going to post pictures from our travels regularly here. Don’t expect any brilliant pieces of photography, just good old fashioned memories.
